The Sri Chamundeshwari Temple which is located about 13 kilometers from Mysuru this is the city is a well known city in Karnataka india. The temple is situated on the Chamundi Hills and these are hills which are dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, who is an incarnation of the Shakti. She is known for defeating the demons like Chanda, Munda, and the buffallo headed monster namely Mahishasura.
Actually the temple holds special importance as Goddess Chamundeshwari is the deity of Mysuru ( Generally known as Polimeru matha ) and the famous deity of the Mysuru Maharajas who were have worshipped her with great devotion for centuries including in the era of Mughals. According to ancient texts like the Skanda Purana the region is part of a sacred place called Trimuta Kshetra these are surrounded by eight hills. Among these the Chamundi Hills lie on the western side. In earlier times, the hill was called Mahabaladri in honor of Lord Shiva who resides in the Mahabaleswara Temple the oldest temple on the hill.
